I am at Cornell. I was taking multi for engineers and I dropped it late. I have a W on my transcript indicating this. I can take the placement exam and go onto take the next class in the sequence. My transcript would just say S for the class but still have the W as well. However, the professor this semester is much easier. If I retake the class its very likely I will get an A. The W would still be there tho. What should I do? What would look best (least bad) to top tier med schools.

It's one W, not that I'd know but that's not a big deal. Either option sounds good to me, but the A might look better and would pretty much negate the withdrawal.

Easy. Retake it. You appear confident, so you will do fine.

On a side note, since you are at Cornell, are you perchance applying to the Summer Access program?
