I'm planning on taking a couple of science courses before I apply in June 2011... w/ a full time job, I can probably take about 3 courses max between now and then.

During my undergrad education, I received a C in one of my general bio courses. My school was on the quarter system, and therefore we had the general bio split into 3 courses instead of 2 semester courses. My C was in the Biology of Plants and Fungi course. I've been told that I should re-take any courses I got a C in... but is it worth my time to take this botany course? There are a few upper division courses I've never taken (Cell Bio is one of them). Which would be more beneficial?

I don't want to blow off this botany course and have it later come back to haunt me, but unless I really should take it again, I'd rather not because the subject doesn't interest me at all. Thanks in advance!

I'm taking botany right now for grins and giggles, and I surprisingly liked it. I've learned quite a bit. Anyway, I wouldn't retake it. I don't see any merits in doing so.

Are you planning on applying M.D. or D.O? If the latter, I would re-take, if not then it doesn't matter. Remember that D.O. schools replace grades where as M.D. schools average them.

I'm planning on MD... As I understand it, the allopathic school would not replace this grade (thank you for confirming). Just wanted to make sure I was making the right decision by not retaking.

I'm thinking of taking Cell Bio, Molecular Bio, and Human Physiology (and not taking Botany).

Thanks!

For MD your grade would not be replaced, just averaged. Thus, I would recommend that you do not re-take.
