Retake Chem 1 again?

I took general chemistry 1 and received a D, I retook it and received a C+. I have taken general chem 2 and organic chem 1, I received an A- and B+. I know dental schools average retakes, would my general chem 1 grade be averaged to a C or C-? Should I retake general chemistry 1? Or should I just focus on getting A's in organic 2 and biochemistry. Please help! My advisor told me it shouldn't be a problem since all my other science classes are A's and a couple B's but I really want someone else's opinion. Thank you!!

I don’t think retaking gen chem for the 3rd time is a good use of time. You’ve handled higher level chemistry courses well so I think you’ll be in good shape for that. Just do well on the DAT gen chem section to show that you know your chemistry and you’ll be fine.

So the C+ would satisfy pre-reqs, but both the D & C+ would be counted in your GPA (it's not really like Gen Chem I = Avg. Grade, it's like Gen Chem I 1st try = D, Gen Chem I 2nd try = C+). It wouldn't be worth it to retake it for a third time cause then all three grades would count in towards your GPA, and honestly I don't think even getting an A your third time would boost your GPA that much to offset the D/C+. Focus on doing well in the other chem classes, making sure you get As/Bs, and no more Cs/Ds.
