So I took general chemistry my first year of college (2006) and got an A and B+ but I changed my major. Now I'm planning on taking a few prereqs at CC before I get into a postbacc program. Should I retake General Chemistry because it was so long ago?

If you are worried that you will need to know everything you learned in gen chem for o.chem, you will not. O chem is completely different, and there is generally a review of the few key things you need to know at the beginning of the semester (bonding orbitals, valence bond structures etc..).

Waste of time IMHO, just get a good gen chem book and review key topics.

Gen Chem is often reviewed briefly in subsequent chemistry classes. Many MCAT exam prep books or even a good AP Chemistry review book would give you all the essential information you would need for further courses or exams. Like the other posters stated, it would most likely be unnecessary to retake the courses. I retook Gen Chem only because the AACOMAS application for DO schools allowed grade replacement.
