I'm retaking a course this summer, but want to submit my application tomorrow. Can I mark the previous course with 0.0 credits (so that it doesn't factor into my GPA) and then put the current course as "planned" with the grade during the academic update?

no, dont zero the credits. update the course in academic update period (Sept-Oct). leave as is for now. add planned course.

I doubt AACOMAS would allow that.

Did you have to do this for your application? I'm just rethinking this because I read under "Updating the application/academic update" section questions: "Your previously verified coursework and other sections of the application will remain locked."

How then would I be able to zero the previous course credits and have them replace that grade to impact my GPA if those courses are "locked"?

Just wondering because I was a little confused. So after calling AACOMAS, were they able to list the courses that you were retaking as 0.0 credits and as "In progress" ? Thanks.

Any courses in progress don't have credits because you don't have a grade for them yet. They did tell me, however that I will be able to update the grades with the credits during the academic update. I will also then call them so that they can mark the classes I am replacing as "o.o" credits.

Oh, that makes sense. So let's say I took Orgo 1 and Chen 2 already and I got a C and a C+ respectively and I decide to retake both over the summer, if I submit my application before I complete these retakes will I be able to mark them as 0.0 credits while I'm retaking them because technically they would be considered as "Im progress" or will they be marked as there actual credit value when I apply? Thanks

Lol no because you have no grade for the retake. So for all intents and purposes, you can't act as if the original classes don't count unless you have a permanent New grade on your transcript.
