Hi guys. I recently got my MCAT score : 27Q 🙁
PS 7
BS 9
VR 11
GPA: 3.82
BCMP: 3.77

I would like to retake the MCAT in Aug and improve my PS score. However, I'm not sure whether it's worth taking the exam that late (score release Sept 23).

I've already submitted my AMCAS application with one school (awaiting verification).

In my case, is it advisable to apply to schools now and retake the exam in August ( however, I understand that schools wait for the new score to review the application )

Or just apply with what I have now (early application to many schools) and hope for the best.

Thanks. truly appreciate your $.02

I would apply to a handful of schools now and retake the exam in August. Your chances of getting in with a 27 (including the 7 in PS) are very low. It's good you sent your AMCAS out now. Maybe designate an additional couple schools now and then wait for your new scores. If they're good, then you can add more schools at the time.

Thanks. appreciate ur input. Anyone else?

Should I consider an SMP?

Try retaking the test, but only if you think you can improve before then. Another 27 or lower could ruin your chances this year.

Otherwise, target your applications to schools at which you think you have a shot.

So if the score goes down your chances of being admitted will go down, are you positive?

I ask because i'm in a similar situation (29Q) and i'm not too sure about the gamble. If it couldn't hurt me then I would likely retake it.

Just as with grades, an upward trend is always your friend.

Think about it in terms of one of your biology exams. If your teacher gave you a second chance, and you did worse, how would that reflect on you?

Retaking is always a gamble, and the general consensus is to only take the MCAT once if you can help it. A second try can only help you if your score goes up, and only you can decide if you are ready.
