hey guys, im currently signed up for the june 16 mcat. i am carrying a 3.5 cgpa and 3.5 sgra (Besides pre-reqs, i have taken immunology, human genetics, microbioogy, molecular cell biology, biochemistry, anatomy and physiology). i took the mcat last year and got a 24 (P-9, B-9, V-6, WS-O). i have over 175 hours volunteering at a local hospital and habitat for humanity, and over 200 hours tutoring underpriveleged kids. i have three pretty good letters of recommendation. i feel that i am pretty well set except for my mcat score. however, i havent really been studying as diligently as i should, as a result i am wary of my upcoming test. i am applying very broadly, about 12 schools. any thoughts if i should take my test or cancel it and just apply with a 24? thanks

If you don't care where you go I'd be willing to bet you'll get in somewhere. Where are you applying?

Hmm check the other thread on Pre-DO about min GPA/MCAT. there are some schools that need a min 7 in each section. I would retake it in June only if i am well prepared. So, at the end of the day its upto you how you look at things. I got a 27R and i am retaking it in August. If you feel you will do better the second time around, go ahead and retake it.

good luck

im applying to:

ATSU (AZ)
LECOM
NYCOM
PNWU
PCSOM
RVUCOM
TOUROCOM (NV) - 1ST CHOICE
UMDNJ-SOM
UNECOM
WVSOM
VCOM?
CARRIBEAN?

DO YOU GUYS THINK I WOULD GET SOME INTERVIEWS FOR A COUPLE OF THESE SCHOOLS?

I think you should retake. A 6 in the verbal is your main problem and if you can get it up then you'll be in the green for applying to D.O and M.D.

For advice on how to improve, please go to the mcat prep section.

You absolutely need to improve that verbal score. A 6 will get you screened at most schools, as its a very low percentile for mcat takers. You have a good gpa, so apply as your heart desires, but you need to improve from the 24. MCAT averages for DO schools are increasing and becoming more competitive every year, and while you may still have a shot at some DO's with your mcat & gpa, you'd be in a much stronger position if you could get that verbal score up.
