Hey guys, I just have a quick question. I recieved C's in both ochem I and II. I wasn't plannin on pharmacy school when I took the classes so I basically had the attitude of "I just wanna get through this and get it over with". But now that I am planning on applying, I hate those two C's and I want to take them again, but I have read in a few of these discussions that pharmacy schools would look down on taking them again if i passed because I should be spending my time on other things...is this true? Should I just spend my time studying for a great score on the PCAT?

thanks!

i had that attitude too and had 2 Cs in General chem and in microbio. i havae not retaken those courses and I don't plan to. I will just try to do better in the higher classes. However, since your Cs are in ochem and schools look at those, you should retake one only if you dont want to retake both.

My one friend got C's in both Gen Chem and O-chem and was accepted to Lecom-Erie. If you want to retake to improve your GPA and to make you more competitive, then you should. O-chem is not something I want to retake. I took O-chem 1 and got a B, O-chem 2 and got a C-, took it again and got a C, then I took O-chem 3 in the summer and got a B. We go by quarter system, so I had to take 3 o-chem classes instead of 2 like other people. It really depends on the school.

Who said pharmacy schools look down on retaking classes? I think they look down on C's a lot more. I'm not saying you can't get into pharm school with C's because it seems like quite a few people have done it. But it's totally okay to retake a class in which you got a C in, especially an important class like Ochem. I would retake both and get A's in both classes. Or if time is an issue, at least retake Ochem II and make sure you ace it. Good luck!

It isnt bad to retake the class..

but if you retake it and get the same grade or a lower grade😱 .. that could hurt way more

Maybe taking only one semester is a good idea but I would actually suggest Orgo I in that case. A lot of the threads on here have debates about what pre-req classes you will use most in pharmacy school and most people say Biochem and the Orgo that you do in fact use is more similar to Orgo I...

The reason I said at least take Orgo II is because if you do well in Orgo II, that means you should do well in Orgo I. A good grade in Orgo II would make up for your bad grades in both Orgo I and II. That's what pharm schools would tell you if you had to pick between Orgo I and II. But the thing is you have to do well, otherwise you might as well start from the beginning.
