I'm thinking about doing some GPA repair this upcoming semester. I got a C in Gen Chem 1 Lecture and Lab like 5 years ago. Would it be worthwhile to retake this even though I've taken chem2/orgo1/orgo2/biochem recently with As/Bs?

It would raise my sGPA from 3.34 to 3.51, but would adcomms just look at this and say "of course he got an A in chem1 after taking chem2, etc"? Opinions appreciated.

I would retake it. If Adcoms looked down on it like that, then no one would ever retake. Retake it and show mastery by getting an A. A's always look good.

We do NOT think that way! We'll look at your entire package...your sGPA is fine. What's your ovarall GPA?

My overall GPA is not great. Currently cGPA = 2.94. Will bring that up to 3.01 provided I get A's in the 3 Biology classes I'm enrolled in for the Fall.

I have C's in Chem1, Human Physiology, and Genetics. The rest of my science classes are A's with a couple of B's (organic, bleh).

If I were to retake all 3 of those classes and get A's I would have a cGPA=3.15 and sGPA=3.80. Would it be worth it to do so (specifically the Gen Chem 1 since it's a low-level course)?

I'm trying to get into a competitive range so I can maybe gain admittance to a D.O. SMP with high linkage in the next few years. Thanks for the help guys.

Retake. A 0.17 sGPA jump for one class is a no brainer, it shows dedication too.

Slightly Off-topic: Goro, how do you guys feel about someone who's grad from a 4-year and retaking @ a community college? Mainly due to financial reasons and fact that most 4-year classes are during the day and I work full-time. High grade in upper-div courses, just retaking some lower divs that I did horrible in.

I'd retake them at least to get your cGPA over 3.0. What's your MCAT? You might be competitive without having to go the SMP route and just apply straight to DO if your sGPA is good and you have a good MCAT.

Actually haven't taken the MCAT yet. Was going to aim to take it March/April of 2012.

I don't think I really mentioned this in my previous posts, but my choice is to either repeat some or all of those classes or just take upper-division biology courses instead. At this point I'm thinking retake chem1 and physiology, and to take 2-3 upper division bio courses.

Thank you OP for asking this question. I, too, was trying to figure out my options with a similar situation to yours. Except that I just received a C in Gen Chem 1 this past academic season.

Best of luck to you and your endeavors.
