Hello SDN. I had various responses from around me so I just wanted to confirm here.
Before I list my score, my udergrad GPA is 3.0 and Post Bacc(3.96) with 11 science courses and I have 4 years part-time/full-time dental assistant experience.

Here is my score:
Bio:20, Gchem:23, Ochem: 22, PAT: 20, RC: 19, QR: 18, AA: 20

I'm a bit worried about my RC score considering many schools have a 20~22 average RC score for accepted students. Please tell me how you think, thanks!

Honestly, I think these are great scores. Your Chem scores are fantastic :claps:

Remember an average of "20~22" means there are some scores less than 20 and some are more. I wouldn't stress so much about RC, 19 is not bad at all. However, I always suggest contacting schools because they will give you most accurate recommendation.

Best of luck!

Hi Kellog,

You scores are are excellent! Your science scores more then compensate for the reading and I see no reason you would need to retake the DAT. You have put in a lot of hard work in recent years and a 3.96 Postbac shows the dental schools you possess the desire and drive it takes to succeed in dental school. As I have stated many times it's best to contact the school you want to attend and ask them directly.

Congratulations on a job well done!

Nancy

Thanks, I feel better now, because one of the advisors told me to retake it and wait for the next cycle... Classes in my post bacc, chad's video, and destroyer helped me for the chemistry. Unlike most students here, I did 5~10 destroyer questions per day and went over the concepts. So, it took me about 5 months or so to complete the destroyer, somehow I reached the end page of destroyer 1 week before the DAT and took a long rest for the entire week. I'm dissapointed at my Bio though because I scored 22+ in all of my practice tests and I spent the most time preparing.

I am quite curious what school do you attend that an advisor would suggest a retake? And what dental schools are you considering?

BTW, I am glad the Destroyer helped you on you DAT.

I have not even mentioned the schools and he said average DAT for Asians is actually higher than the accepted average, so I should not compare myself with the statistics alone. He usually only deals with pre-med students so maybe the advisor did not know what scores meant exactly. I hope dental schools look at other factors such as upward trend, so I am going to forget about what he said and keep moving forward.

You should absolutely keep moving forward, I have seen many students get into dental schools with similar scores and even a bit lower. As I suggested I would contact the dental schools and put more weight in what they say and less in the advisor.

Just my 2 cents..

I have gotten 6 interviews pre December so far and realized how wrong the advisor was 🙂 Thanks for the support SDN community and I will keep moving forward!
