hi guys..

i took part1 in 2003 and just barely passed it.
i am considering either taking part 2 and getting a satisfactory/good score in part2 OR retaking part 1 all over again so that i get an above-ave. score in part1 prior to lodging my applications for Adv. standing programs.
i understand that lots of schools do not require part2 scores, but will it help if i get a good score in it?
i totally prefer doing well in part2 instead of retaking part1 cuz i really hate basic sciences!! any advice...???

also, second of all, i am wondering if i will be able to take a year off though i hopefully get admission in to the program i.e. is deferring a year allowed once accepted in to the program that starts this year? what if i become really sick and hospitalized so i cannot start the program in the year applied for??

any help will be greatly appreciated!!
good luck to you all.

Hi there

Forget Part II,take the decks and past papers.Gulp them down word by word for 6 months.Take the CBT.Apply for the ASP.

Take a year off?????whats the matter?

Hi White E8,
I am the other one in same condition as you are,but i am planning to retake it,where are you from?may be we can be study partners.let me know if it interests you.

Re take part 1 , try and get above 90 , and most of the schools will roll your admission for 1 year if you 've paid your initial deposit( which varies from school to school)

I concur with the rest of SDNers: re-take your Part 1 only if you really have nothing better to do. You should concentrate more on your school work. Part 1 is just extra-curricular work. Do it at your own pace!

What did you get in your Part 1? Was it that bad? As long as you have 80 to 90 percentile in Part 1, you should pat yourself on the back and feel happy.

i would advice you to retake part 1- most schools ask for part 1 scores. part 2 will not be considered if it is not a requisite part of the application. even if they do, it will be after they have had a good long look at your part 1 score! 😀 and these days, its getting more and more competitive. so better the score- better the chances. if you are applying to schools that have their own dexterity tests you might be okay with your present score since they value their test more than the ndbe score. good luck!! :luck:

Hi white E8
Before sometime I was in the same boat as you are. I personally think that you should retake part 1 as adviced by others. I know basic sciences are boring but if you dont think like that and try to develop interest i guess you should be fine. Just concentrate and try to finish as fast as possible. Good luck for your decesion. 👍

i think the NBDE scores r valid for upto 3 yrs..it will also depend from state to state. that means u can submit ur applications based on the recent score for upto 3 yrs. but whether u can take a year off AFTER joining a college will depend i guess. if u have a genuine reason, some colleges may accept with a small percentage of fees for retaining ur seat..some may not..u wont really know unless u call them up and ask...hope this helps..
