I am done my DAT and here are my scores. I'm pretty satisfied with every section except for one. Should I retake?

Bio-21
GC- 23
OC-23
TS-22
AA-20
PAT-19
RC-15😱

My GPA is a 3.33, I have tons of volunteering and research experience. I know reading comprehension is really important so I'm almost tempted to retake it but would hate to get lower in other sections.

congrats on finishing the DAT and you have got some solid scores.. Unfortunately, you know the answer and you have to retake. Almost all schools have a cut off line of 17 for RC and as you said, it is very important.
What was the RC about and what was difficult about it? what method did you use?

yeah great scores im sorry to second the motion that u will need a retake a low score in reading is not acceptable at all and i regret to tell you that u need atleast a 17 to be considered.......good luck try to read sum more scientific journals or try kaplan reading comp section may i ask what reading passage you had?

I only know 1 person who got in with a low RC and it was a 16, with a much higher GPA + many EC. Yeah it sucks to get a 22 TS and have to retake, but I went from a 16 to a 19 just by practicing SND.
Also, both times I took the DAT the 1st passage was the hardest. The second time I figured it out, and guessed on a few on the first passage to leave 20 min for the 2nd and 3rd. Worked out well! :xf:

Are you from Canada? saw your post about cDAT, anyway, i am from UofT, also 3.3 gpa... i applied this cycle w/ similar scores, i'll let you know by June whether that is worth a retake LOL.
I really don't think 1 score should have such a killer weighting, a 15 isn't that far from a 17 imo. 22TS, 20AA, 3.3 means you are capable of doing well in school and memorizing random facts, a bad RC score just means you can't read something off the computer screen in 30min and know it all... i think dentistry is about memorizing facts, so i hope it will work out for me in the end (though... so far things don't look good, i have gotten nothing but rejections, no interview sigh...)

what do you mean guess on the 1st and left 20 mins for the other 2.. 20 each or total of 20?

I think they meant like since the first passage is usually hard(i dont know about this) so if you cant find something just guess fast and move on so you will have more time for the second passage and at least 20 minutes for the 3rd passage.

To the op. I called couple schools regarding my own score and where i stand. I remember the first thing they asked whats you AA then whats you TS then they were like Whats your RC... I think you should go to Admissions counselor and discuss w/ them. anyways good luck. :luck: and great job your dats....

Thanks for all your input. I didn't find the passages hard but my problem is that I know I'm bad at this section so when it came to it I was so nervous and basically let the nerves get the best of me. I wrote my first test in November so I have to relearn everything again + practice reading. I used SND but I was way to nervous and couldn't remember the questions I was looking for. It was pretty bad I'm not going to lie. I guess I will start hitting the books again and hopefully the 2nd try will be better. I will let you all know how everything goes.
