I made a D in bio lab as a freshman. I have turned my gpa around and am now a good candidate for DO. I was wondering if scheduling a retake the spring semester AFTER my application would still allow me to be accepted into med school, as long as I mention it as "future coursework". I would retake the class this summer but I would prefer to study for my MCAT without having a class to worry about.

I cannot do the retake in the fall after my application because my school does not offer bio lab until the spring.

Thanks!

This is common - you'll be fine. I've seen several DCOM classmates talk about being in Physics 2 or Organic 2 this semester after having already been accepted.

Just indicate it as future coursework, do well in it, and you'll be golden. Make sure if you indicate you're taking it that you do. Don't get accepted and then think, "well, don't need to take that class now, it won't matter." People have lost acceptances over things like that on here before.

I should have mentioned the flip side of the coin: If you do get accepted before Spring semester wait for your letter of acceptance. It will list out the contingencies for your acceptance. If it says successful completion of your Bachelor's Degree and your school will accept a D toward graduation there's no reason to retake it. Verify that with the school before you take it for the sake of it - they may not care about the D in the end.
