I have a friend (who is too afraid to post this herself) in my undergraduate exercise program who is currently a junior and is looking to go to PT school. She is looking to retake A&P (both semesters) and is debating between taking them in the summer vs. in the academic school year. She has on-campus housing for the summer, so she is able to stick around campus, but I have heard from DPT programs that some prefer seeing anatomy taken in the school year as it is not crammed into an eight-week period. I was just wondering, from people who have retaken anatomy in the past, which situations you found to be more beneficial and why. Thank you!

I’m currently retaking both semesters over the academic period (a&p 1 right now, 2 in the spring), but I’ve already graduated so I don’t have a full courseload. I think that honestly it’s really up to your friends personal preference. Does she want to retake it while having a full courseload but it be a normal paced class, or does she want to retake it with it being her only class but time is halved? Taking it over the summer would give her some advantage because it’ll be out of the way sooner. It really will just boil down to personal preference and whether or not your friend will be able to handle so much information in a small amount of time.

It's not exactly the same, but I took microbiology over the summer and handled it just fine while also taking another class that started in the middle of summer (so this second class was crammed into four weeks, so talk about yikes!). I pulled A's in both, which I did not think I was going to do. Micro final was brutal and I had to take time off work to study for it and human growth and development.

It will be really lots of work to take this class in a short time period. If she did not do well the 1st time, she may not improve the grade at a high pace of the summer semester.
Schools do not care which semester you take it.
