So about 3 years ago I originally took precalc and got a D in it and then retook it a year after that and got a C.

I then took a break from school came back motivated and have taken calc 1, calc 2, and Differential equations with A's in all of them.

If I retake precalc and get an A my cGPA would go from 3.38 to 3.48.

Is it worth taking for a third time, and would it look bad to take precalc after taking a bunch of Calculus?

You have to remember that science GPA is weighed more heavily than cumulative GPA, and AACOMAS doesn't use math in it's sci-GPA calculation. If you have the time and the money, I say why not, but if you have a similar sGPA I'd invest my time working on retakes for science classes/pre-reqs.

Thanks for the reply. Any other thoughts on the matter?

I don't think it'll hurt but what's your sci gpa? You know AACOMAS doesn't count math in sciGPa, right?

gluck! =)

Honestly, I wouldn't say its a necessity. Your most recent trend has been As. It's obvious you know math and precalc was an anomaly. So, if you have time you can, but don't sweat it.

Retake Ds and Fs, then retake Cs in prereqs or related coursework. But make sure to balance this out with new upper levels as well. ONLY retakes could be looked at pretty negatively, taking a good mix would be wise. I would only retake the C if you don't have any other Cs or below and you want to boost your cgpa.

Definitely retake any C- s, Ds, and Fs that you have on your transcripts, especially if they are directly related to the science field (Math and Science). Yes it won't help your sGPA but it will be vey important to show ADCOMs that you recognized this in your past and addressed it. Good luck.

Unfortunately, for me, some of my C's in the BCPM's are still going to show up on my transcripts as will an F in Orgo 2 (they processed my withdrawl after the deadline) because they (my university) either separated the lab as a different grade, or the hours of the course are messed up. I have retaken all of them for A's, but I have to average the grades 🙁

Quick question here. I took my classes originally in a quarter system, and now i am retaking in a semester system. when i am calculating my GPA, does the retake hold the same value as the quarter units (converted to semester units since this is what AACOMAS tells you to do) or is it valued at what the semester units are that I am taking now. For example, i took Phyics at a UC which was 4 quarter units, or 2.67 semester units. I am retaking the same class, but it is now 4 semester units. In calculating my GPA, is the new retake at 4 semester units or 2.67? Hope this makes sense

I could be wrong, sorry if I am, but I'm pretty sure retakes have to be in the same semester style that you took the original class in. (ex. quarters can only be replaced by quarters, not semesters). not positive so I'd double check this info, just thought I'd seen it somewhere before, possibly from TriagePreMed?

My understanding of the AACOMAS is that yes it needs to be in the same semester style and the same credit load to be considered for a re-take. I could be completely wrong, so perhaps a few others will chime in.
