Hi All!

I posted a thread earlier about what I should do regarding my first semester of college, but I have another question!

Let me remind those who didn't read my previous thread:

I had family difficulties my first semester of college, a family member was ill and I had difficult adjusting.

I ended up with a D+ (I thought it was a C but I was wrong) in general chemistry 1 and a C in bio.

Should I retake these courses next semester, or should I go on, take chem 2 and bio 2 next semester, and retake them in the future?

thanks so much!

lol another question, sorry... ALSO, when you retake classes does it change in your GPA?

I'd move on and retake them in the future, once you have a better idea of things...it's still really early in your college carreer. Plus, if you start acing the rest of your pre-med classes, you might not even have to retake both, only the D+.

If I'm not mistaken, I don't think you can apply to med school with anything less than a C in the required courses.

Take the Chem over and leave the bio grade as is. Study your butt off though in Bio 2 and any other upper classes, so those grades won't ruin your GPA. Plus you have just started, so you have plenty of time to bring up your gpa.

You are going to need the information in the gen chem classes in order to do well on the MCAT so it is very important that you learn that information. Take it again.

As to the GPA and whether the grade will be replaced, I don't know. I think it will be used in your gpa on your AMCAS application.

Good luck

What if you get a C-? Do you have to retake those classes?

maybe what you need is a small break from premed classes. dun wanna burn yourself out early. 😉

Med schools do look at applicants who have gotten D's and C's, however, your chances of being accepted are better if you retake the course and get a better grade.

My pre-med advisor (who is also on the admissions board at the medical school here) STRONGLY recommends retaking the pre-reqs you got lower than a C. If I were you, I would leave your C in bio alone and retake chem.
