Hello all, I'm in the process of retaking classes and I just want to makes sure that I can retake the class at a different school and they will still replace the grade all the same. Say I took a class at school X and them retook them at school Y. I have seen some threads that say if the classes have difference call numbers then they don't be counted as a retaken class and the grade won't get replaced, just averaged? That scared the #*$& out of me when I saw it because I have already retaken 5 classes.

Also is it looked badly upon when your transcript has all of these retaken classes on it because I have a quite a few classes that I plan on taking over again in order to boost my GPA. Has anyone gone this route to get into school? I can use all the help that I can get, sigh. Trust me, if I knew it would take this long and this much hard work then I would have just done it right the first time around. Thanks a lot!

1. I think it may depend on what your school has to say about it. Will your school allow you to retake those classes at another institution? I know for a fact that my school does not allow that, but all schools are different. Just check with your advisor or someone that can answer that.

2. Not too sure about that, I would guess that as long as you greatly improve, I think you may be okay. I am taking a few courses again in the near future, and many people have already counted me out of the race, so let's prove them wrong!

one of my retakes was with different # but had the same name for the course and were replaced NOT averaged. It does not matter what your school policy is unless they don't put the retaken class on your transcript.

Call AACOMAS regarding this for the best answer.

If you need to do retakes to boost your GPA then you have no choice. Try to get A's. The first thing ADCOMS will see is your GPA so let them decide how many W's and retakes are ok.

Oh, sorry I wasn't that clear about my question. I have already graduated from college back in 2004 but I had less then steller grades. I took some time off and did something totally different but I always had the feeling that one day I would go back to the healthcare fields so I went back to school in order to boost my GPA (I didn't really want to do an official post bacc program if possible). So will these new classes be able to replace the grades from before? I realize that my previous grades will also appear on my transcripts, I hope that they just don't be averaged into my GPA when I do end up end applying. And Yes, i do realize I missed spelled in the heading of the thread (oops!), guess that doesn't quite help my case for going to DO school, hahaha. Thanks!

Wow, I've not heard this question before. I don't know if the classes will be averaged or dropped. When you find out the answer, please post a follow up for all of us.

Good luck.

both grades appear on the transcript. Only the last grade(regardless of being higher or lower) taken is used in the GPA. See the FAQ for more details.
yup. I did this with 2 classes, both had different numbers and were from different schools than the previous classes. called aacomas to see if they would replace the old grades, and they did. I think one class was even worth a different amount of credit hours than the old one, but it still replaced it. It's not a bad idea to call aacomas to make sure.

thanks a lot for the responses, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't taking these classes in vain, lol. I saw that just the last retake will be averaged into the GPA but I was concerned because I saw a few posts that said that if the course numbers didn't match then they grade would not be replaced because they would be considered different or something, thanks a lot!
