So I'm a senior at the University of California, San Diego and planning on applying to both allopathic and osteopathic schools this year. I have very few classes left before I graduate (like one) so I've decided to retake some classes where I got C's (like three of them).

However UC policy on grades C and above (and I have no D's or F's) is that you can neither retake them for credit nor will they affect your UC GPA (neither replaces your grade nor is it averaged). But should I care about my cumulative UC GPA? Or just the GPA that AMCAS and AACOMAS calculate?

My logic is for DO there's grade replacement, and I am confident that I would get an A in these classes, and for Allopathic my grades would be averaged (which is all I'd really want).

I fully understand that retaking classes don't completely replace them, and I don't pretend that I didn't get those C's (one is in Ochem C, but the rest are non prereqs). And I know that the prevailing logic seems to be that if you want to improve your GPA (for Allopathic) you should instead take more upper div classes, but I'd rather prove that I know, completely, some of these core classes (like molecular biology) than random neuroscience (my major), even if I really know that stuff, because it paints me as being rather narrowly good at brain stuff (even if brain stuff is really dang fascinating).

Note: I do have quite a few B's, so its not like my GPA is super shiny and I'm some sort of neurotic gunner. I really could do with some GPA improvement.

Take them over at Miramar then. AMCAS and AACOMAS calculate your GPA and that's the important one. Some schools then recalculate your GPA again for certain classes that they are interested in looking at.

Seems like everyone picks Physiology & Neuroscience there....
