My friend took:-

1) Evolution and Ecology 4 credits and he wants to retake it at another university but it's called General Ecology and it's 4 credits. Will grade replacement for that be accepted?

2) Genetics and Molecular biology 4 credits and he wants to retake it but the new course is called General Genetics and it's 4 credits. Will grade replacement be accepted?

Why did you have to make a new thread?

They'll most likely replace it. I had courses named something differently and they did.

Listen man, please post this either under the Official Questions thread or at very least under your previous thread about grade replacement. It makes no sense to keep creating a new thread when you have very related questions.

They sound like different courses. One sounds like an Evolution course and the other an Ecology course. Depending on the descriptions, I don't think it would be replaced, but you could ask AACOMAS to be sure.

If their descriptions are pretty similar, they should work, but you might get some issues if the first course is more of a Cell & Molec focused course as opposed to Genetics. I think you'll be fine with this one, but again, to be sure you could ask AACOMAS.

Were they at least similar? I've heard of people having issues with course replacements that had different descriptions. All the courses I replaced were very similar in both title and description, so I never had an issue.

For example, I could see something like "Ecology" being replaced by "Biological Foundations of Ecology" or something like "Matrix Algebra" being replaced by something like "Linear Algebra and Matrices" because these are all basically the same thing, but to me "Evolution and Ecology" sounds like an evolution course, not a general ecology course. I may be wrong obviously, based on the course descriptions, but just going off the title, that's what I would think.

The bottom line is, OP make sure you've got a good argument/justification for why the courses are similar, just in case (in the unlikely event that) they give you an issue with it. Like copy the course descriptions and show how they are basically the same.

I think that emailing AACOMAS would probably be the best thing, with pasting of the description. I do see what you mean with the evolution course, it might not get replaced.

Hello,

I am sure this question can help others as well and I couldn't find it in any of the threads. Anyways, when you retake courses and send the final transcripts to AACOMAS, how does this work at the institution level? Will the D.O. schools you apply to also receive your transcripts and/or see specific grades or will they just get the overall GPA that AACOMAS calculates and verifies? Also, does anybody know if the institution will see how many classes are retaken?

The reason why I ask is because at the very beginning during my community college career, I didn't know anything about drops. When I stopped going to classes, I didn't realize that I was getting F's. So while it may show that I have 8 retakes, I wanted to know how to prepare for any questions that may arise in the process.

The schools will not all receive your transcripts, however they will see all courses you've taken and their corresponding grades, including any retakes. The school receives your standardized application. It includes a summary page that breaks down your stats by year, course, subject (bio, chem, etc.), MCAT, etc. In addition the applications show all science coursework sorted into pre-req categories (bio, chem, phys, behavioral sci, etc.) with their corresponding grades. Following this is the other non-science category that lists all courses in that category. Essentially schools will be able to see all the coursework as its displayed in the app when you are filling it out.

Schools can absolutely see how many courses you've retaken and your original grades in those courses.

The reason why I ask is because at the very beginning during my community college career, I didn't know anything about drops. When I stopped going to classes, I didn't realize that I was getting F's. You'll have to explain it if it comes up. It shouldn't be a problem though as it could easily be explained by immaturity, naivety, or many other things, which you have clearly fixed (emphasize that its fixed and what you learned from your poor decisions if you are asked about it). A lot of schools might not even bring it up though.
