I have plans on retaking courses that I got C's in during my undergrad.

I know that I've read on forums that DO schools recalculate your GPA with the grade you receive in the retaken course. At my undergrad, we were only allowed to retake a course if it was under a "C". What if I retook this course at another school (the course I received a C+ in) and got an A, would the admissions committee accept the A?

Also, would it be a bad idea to retake these courses at a community college? Anyone hear from someone else's experience of doing this, and was successful in replacing the old bad grade?

Expenses and availability of courses are factors for which school I attend to retake courses.

Yes, you can retake the course at another school including a CC as long as its the retake is worth the same or greater in credit hours. Also, check out the "What are my chances?" and "AACOMAS application process" thread for this coming application cycle and you will get a lot of your questions answered there. 🙂🙂

It sounds like you have good reasons to retake the classes at a CC. You should use the search function, though. 😛 These topics have been discussed plenty of times and you can find detailed answers for your questions by searching.
