For the sequence courses (bio, gen chem, ochem) is it okay to retake one of the classes at a cc or do you have to retake the whole sequence in order to get credit?
It is generally better to retake the classes in the same institution. They may have grade forgiveness or grade replacements policy. You better look more into it.
I think it will credit regardless because it will just take the average of the two grades. You don't have to take the whole sequence as far as I know but it really depends on the rules and regulations of the CC. You just have to talk to the CC's counselor and your university's counselor which would be better.
Good luck!
The more important question is if the COP you are interested in recognizes grade forgiveness. Most do not as I recall.
Whether they do or not, PharmCAS will take both grades and put it in your calculated GPAs. Still, I think retaking something for a higher grade shows more effort and reflects better on your part than leaving it as a C for a one time take when you list both grades on a prereq sheet. And if you received lower than a C, likely you would have to retake it regardless.
To OP, you should be able to retake just the one part of the sequence, not the whole sequence unless the school you want to take it at has any odd rules about that..
Schools are not obligated to use the PharmCAS GPA and in fact none of the schools I applied to did. They all had their own formulas for how to calculate the GPA they wanted to look at.
how are you guys retaking classes? Is it mainly through community college?
