So I took the May 24th MCAT, the C/P section did not go well since I ran out of time and had to guess on the last 6-10 questions. Everything else felt okay.

However, I am predicting a poor score and am thinking of signing up for a retake on July 13th, with a score release date of August 13th.

Is that considered too late for applying MD this cycle? I was thinking of submitting my primary in the coming week for verification, and having it sent out with my (potentially poor) MCAT score at the end of June, and submitting secondaries by labor day at the very very latest (september 2nd). This would mean my retake MCAT score would be sent to schools before I submit my secondaries marking my application complete.

But I'm not sure if I'm understanding this timeline correct. I'm reading some schools don't look at my app until its received the MCAT score, and I've also read some schools won't even send me secondaries if I mark that I'm retaking my MCAT? Could anyone clear up this confusion or have recommendations on what I should do?

Thank you

I retook my mcat in September when I applied with a 500 mcat score before getting a new mcat score in October. I did this while polishing up my AMCAS app, working full time, and writing all secondaries. I submitted my primary mid June and didn't tell any of the schools that I was going to retake my mcat so many just screened me out and rejected immediately with my 500. when my new score came in October, I got 5 interviews total. So it works out, but I just had a later interview cycle. I ended up getting into a T10 school and also interviewed at T20 schools.

applying without a good score is risky because what if you retake it in July and do worse....then its a point of no return and med school will see that downward trend, which is a red flag.

You can definitely still do a retake for your MCAT - just be sure to submit in your primaries in time because the outcome of a better MCAT score will be submitted automatically and at the same time you are polishing your application so that is important as well.

OP please read @gonnif ’s reply several times. Depending on your total application your application game may be over before schools get your second score. @gonnif knows what he’s talking about. Good luck but be smart.

How was your retake? I'm in the same situation and not sure what to do.
