retaking orgo

i want to retake orgo 1 and 2 this summer as i earned Cs in both. i hope the B i earned in biochem will be in my favor. i was planning on taking the classes at a CC because it's closer to my house than the university i atttend. generally, adcoms want you retake your pre-reqs at a university, right? does anyone have any experience with this?

also, i think i've seen this question posted in another thread, but when they ask for "one year of biology," they mean gen bio 1 AND 2, correct? i took gen bio 1 and cell bio (plus the usual genetics, microbio, etc.) because gen bio 2 is not required of my major.

General bio is usually the requirement. I don't think your organic grade is that bad, especially if the rest of your application is strong. I think the community college is fine. Almost all of my pre-reqs were taken at a CC. The B in biochem should definitely help. Good luck with everything! 😀

If you originally took the classes at a 4-year university and you have the option to retake them at the same university but choose to take them at a cc instead, it will look like an obvious ploy to get a better grade by taking an easier class. The "closer to my house" excuse will probably not hold up very well, considering that the university is close enough to your house to take other classes there.

I think this depends on the school. Some will accept mo bio in place of a semester of gen bio.

got meds?, i dorm at school during the year. when summer time hits, i come home. although my school is only an hour away from home, it would still be a pain to have to drive there everyday for 12 weeks in the summer (especially with traffic on the highways early in the morning). i do see what you're saying, though. thanks for the reply!

I think this depends on the school. Some will accept mo bio in place of a semester of gen bio.

I'm retaking mine (retaking one and taking the other for the first time) at a CC this summer; because I would have graduated from my university, plus I am not driving 2+ hrs each way for summer school nor paying for housing over the summer. Just because one goes to a university during the academic year does not mean it is cost effective to go there during the summer.
