I am an undergraduate biology major who had a rough transition into university life and managed to make a C in an intro level biology class. A professor that I do research with advised me not to retake the intro class and instead try to do extrememly well in a higher level course instead of backtrack and though the gpa boost may not be as large, a good grade in the higher level course would look better on my transcript for med school admissions. Do you guys agree or disagree with his suggestion?

Agree---given that you actually do grasp the fundamental information from that class.

If you were to retake the class, both grades would be counted into you AAMC GPA anyway, so you might as well prove yourself by getting an A at a higher level class. Your prof. is right on.
