Hey guys,

I took the DAT today....and it was a wild ride...Ok, so like first, I FORGOT my jacket there! (NOO) I'll go back and get it tomorrow or today...

Anyways here are my scores... 🙁:

PAT - 20
BIO - 16 🙁(
CHEM - 18
OCHEM - 16 😡
RC - 18
QR - 15 <<<NOOO
TS - 16
AA - 17

I'll retake it, and this is no where near others I've seen, but I just dont know how to feel right now 😛 Anyways, I have a question: Can I apply for DAT to retake during the 90 day period? I took mine today, 9/26, can I make an appointment to take it again in December? Thanks!

Oh btw...I only needed an AA 18 to get admitted...but I failed... :/ well, at least not horribly..right?

I told you...

How did you study for the test? What materials and how long?

I told you...

Well, thank you for telling me, but I tried my best within the time period I studied. I studied 2 months basically. But I know it's probably havent been effective as it should be, but I will try different ways to study now. And next time, I'm aiming for higher than 20.

Anyway, so can you answer my question?

no, i don't think you can take it again in the next 90 days

to get a definitive answer, call ADA

Well, you can schedule for your next DAT anytime you want. The system will tell you that you are allowed to take the exam exactly after 90days from today. You simply won't be able to select the dates that are within the 90 day period.
But still go ahead and schedule right now to get the time you want. Also it might help you to focus even more if you schedule it right now.

Good luck man! You can do it!

Thanks man! Oh and there's something I forgot to tell: The power went off during my DAT! : O what are the odds! And I was doing the QR section! What a disturbance!

oh! don't get disappointed. work hard and it'll pay off.

btw, could you please tell me what material you used? I am using MCAT hyperlearning, and I read somewhere just now that it's not sufficient. I don't have destroyer, it's too costly for me. And I don't know what to study from if the book I am using isn't sufficient. Also, please mention the difficulty level for each section and how you would prepare for it the next time. Since you've taken the test, you might have better idea to choose the right material. Thanks a bunch.

and good luck.

i'm sure you can do fine without the more costly dat prep material. I have a dat destroyer but i havent even cracked it yet because I would like to make sure i have the basics down. I would for sure try to find money to get as many practiace tests as you can. I like the ~15 kaplan PDF practice tests because they give me a general idea of what sections I am lacking in. I study cliffs ap bio, i'll buy a campbells book. I took a topscore test but would like to save the last 2 for the weeks before I take the DAT. I have been going through a college algebra textbook and my gen chem textbook. I will probably buy achiever, crack dat pat...

I'm not recommending go out and spend $1500 on a kaplan course, but you can really get the top of the line dat prep stuff all for under $400. Well worth it to get into dental school.

I used Kaplan DAT, Topscore, my O Chem book, and Campbell Bio book. I had a two month study plan first month was to complete going over all materials. Second month basically practicing or trying to implant these info into my brain...and practice tests.

Well, as you can see from my results, my study plan did not work well for me, because 1) I DID run out of sufficient time 2) I only had time to take limited practice tests and practice when compared to other. So the difficulty level, I'd say it's certainly doable, of course, I thought "if i had prepared and planned more effectively i could have done way better", but of course I make mistakes and there are regrets, BUT I learn now how to change my ways of studying!

I will try to prepare better for next DAT by exercising the useful applications that will be used in the test into my daily routine, like make it my routine to study DAT, instead of it being more of a chore. So I'll work on that . Good luck on your exam!

MCAT hyperlearning are great materials to review science. For bio, you need to supplement it with Cliff's bio or Campbell text on the none-human bio sections like plant, ecology, and taxonomy. I like physiology so I almost memorized the whole MCAT hyperlearning bio section (you won't be needing those details for the DAT). Looking back, I think that the DAT only tested like about 5% of what I studied for the Bio section. I think that I have gotten 2-3 wrongs on weird diagrams and questions what were not covered in the review books.

He might be a GPPA student. Smart high school students apply directly to dental school and if they get accepted they just have to take some college level classes + certain dat score, and they'd be in.

Pardon me for my ignorance but how did you get that deal on which you only needed an 18 on your AA to get accepted?

Thanks 🙂.. it's nice to know I'm using the right material. And yeah, I figured that I have to supplement it with other book for bio.

hey thanks! It was helpful.

BTW I think your plan was right, nothing's wrong with it. But yeah, I'd definitely take more practice tests.. And don't let yourself down. I think you'll be fine next time. Oh yeah, just some time back, someone here was kind enough to send me his bio notes, if you want I can send them to you. They're pretty good.

Good Luck!

I'm a DEAP Student at University of TExas Health Science Center at San Antonio, it's their "Dual Degree/Early Acceptance" Program. I needed an 18 AA and 3.4 overall and science GPA. And I get admitted a year early.

Thanks!! Are those bio notes good? I'd like to see them!

Kaplan pdf practice tests? i though you have to be a kaplan student in order to use their practice tests. How could you find the pdf version of the tests? I'm gonna use MCAT hyperlearning and barron's AP biology (dont have cliffs, but it doesn't matter cause I have barron's) for science section. I'll buy CDP for sure in a very short time. And for math, I thought to use Cliffs Math Review for Standardized Tests. It doesn't include trig, but I guess kaplan's bb should be enough for it. I used to be really good at math. algebra, calc were the easiest classes for me. But I know getting an A in some class doesn't mean anything for the DAT. And that is scary, cause you know you might fail even if you know your stuff! Anything can happen that day!

oh yeah, they're good, email me, n i'll forward the notes. you don't have to show me your email address here. I got this dummy email id, so email me first. It's [email protected]
