I have recently graduated from Clemson with a 3.02 🙁 (not sure what my science GPA is) and need to go back and retake some classes. I know the DO programs will completely replace class grades as long as they are exactly the same (i.e. a 4,0 credit Lecture,Lab vs a 3,1 credit Lecture,Lab). Would you suggest retaking the classes I'll list below at a CC or Univ? Do DO programs care one over the other as long as the grade is an A? I don't have the option of going back to Clemson since I now live too far away, but I have a popular university nearby and of course community colleges.

General Microbiology (4 credits): C
General Chemistry II (4 credits): D
Basic Genetics (3 credits): C
General Physics I (3 credits): D
General Physics II (3 credits): C
Anatomy and Phys (4 credits): C

I will obviously need to retake the D's but which C's are worth retaking? (I think all, but if one or two are really not necessary then maybe I shouldn't waste my time.) And I still need to take Organic Chem II and two semesters of Inorganic Chem.

Thanks for any advice!

I am on the same boat as you OP, and currently retaking classes at a CC. Any difference to retaking classes post-bac tho?

It is a rocky boat to be in, my friend. I emailed an admin from a DO school and they told me best case scenario was to obtain a master's degree (no thanks), but that they do accept class retaking and of course it looks better from a university but they do allow community college classes. So I asked my aunt who is a DO and she said that she would suggest retaking classes because of the way the AACOMAS replace them. She pretty much said that if you go for a Master's and get bad grades there too (or, at least not As) then you're REALLY screwed, but if you retake classes and do get the A's then 1) it's like the bad ones never happened, 2) it's much cheaper, 3) it's much less time, and 4) it shows that you can recognize and fix your mistakes. And, depending on the school you go to, a student with a Master's is not looked upon as being better than one who retook classes, it just shows that both students know how to fix their poor grades in two separate ways. And this also leaves the out that if you retake classes and it still isn't good enough, then you can get your grad degree whereas if you already had it and couldn't get in still then I'm not really sure what else you could do. Which still leads me to the question: is it really much of a difference from CC to U?

Depending on your state and schools you apply, CC vs University makes no difference. Is recommend retaking all those classes.

I'll echo what everyone else has said about retaking all of those courses. However, if money/time is an issue, which it so often is, focus on retaking pre reqs (physics 1&2, gen chem) and reevaluate your GPA from there.
