Retention issues in a block style curriculum

I was wondering if those of you who are at a school who has a block curriculum (1-2 classes at a time) find that you are more likely to forget material due to it not being reinforced because you are zoning in on a different class each block? It seems like it would be nice to not have to juggle different subjects, but I am afraid I wouldn't retain as much doing this. In undergrad I always felt like I retained more from semester-long classes than summer classes.
 
I've noticed that I forget many of the details but I have no problem remembering general points. I remember, for example, what aldosterone does, but I don't remember its mechanism of action (e.g., cAMP-dependent, etc.). This seems to be a fairly normal thing among people that I talk to in my class (with the exception of perhaps the super hard working people).
 
I didn't find I had too much trouble with it; kind of like what Nick says, you can remember general, big picture points, which is most of what you need to know. You'll have to go back and cram the little details for Step 1, but at least it won't be all new material.

Thanks for the responses, and I am sorry for not posting this in pre-allo. I just figured that I would get more answers from medical students who have experience with that type of curriculum in the med student forum.
