I am planning on leaving primary care after 10 years to do some non-clinical work. Will it be possible to return to primary care after a gap of 3-5 years? I am in New York market.

Thanks.

I would predict it might be difficult, but probably not impossible. Being off 5 years would make it harder than being off 1-2 I would think. I don't see the primary care market in my part of the country being saturated any time soon...it's too damn hard a job and I don't see salaries going up that much and burnout will remain high IMHO. I don't know about NYC though...perhaps there are so many residents being cranked out that there is competition for jobs.
