I may have to re-use one of my letters of recommendation from last year (they are saved in Interfolio...no committee at my school). Hopefully, the others will have the letters done by next week. Is it alright to reuse the LORs? I want to turn in secondaries quickly.

I'm actually going to call my old boss at the NIH from 7 yrs ago to ask him to resubmit my old rec to interfolio. Its pretty normal and my advisor said it was fine. Just make sure you have new ones from the time since then...show what you've been up to since your last application and since the time when that rec was written.

I used the same exact recs and I added one from some research I did in between applications. I don't think it's bad to use them over. if u know what was wrong with ur app, then pinpoint that and work at it. if ur LORs were fine, leave them be and go at it.

Thank you both for answering. I don't have any additional letters to add unfortunately...just did a ton of research and finishing my thesis since last year.

Arb,

Get a letter from your PI...I'm in the same exact boat. I applied for 2004, no acceptance, started my thesis in a research lab, and I'm finishing this month. I plan to use my old letters on file and add one from my PI whom I'm doing research with. Don't think it matters. Hopefully, schools did not reject you for letters, so they'll likely be looking for an improvement in whatever caught their eye before...again...not the letters.

this topic was covered in another thread (sorry, too lazy to find the link for you). to sum it up: some people updated the dates on the letters. some reused letters dated 4 years prior. some used same letters from previous years. some got all new letters. doesn't seem to matter much. all received admission to med school. they're recommendations...they're the least of your worries.
