Thanks for your time. I am starting DO school in August. I was just wondering if it is smart to buy board review books now and books for my classes or is it better to see what the school recommends? Thanks a lot.

I definitely would not buy all of the books that your school recommends for classes. I wish I had at least used First Aid along with my MS-1 and MS-2 classes.

Thanks a lot. I appreciate it.

Just my opinion, but unless they're giving it away, I would buy NOTHING right now. Wait till you get started and see what you need. Talk to upperclassmen and see what they actually used.

As far as whether to use review books from day one as you go through classes, there are varying opinions, my own is a resounding YES. Don't use them as a primary source to try to learn from, but do use them to reinforce main ideas and filter the huge amount of material that will be thrown at you. Also, now that boards are here, I'm glad that I already know exactly which review books I like for each subject.

Which review books are good? I was thinking buying Kaplan review books for comlex; is it necessary to buy USMLE review books too?

For review books go with the previous response of First Aid for step 1. But I only found it really helpful during my second year when I started the medicine classes.

First aid is great although very bare bones. Kaplan has a good high-yield review book that's a little more detail but still organized and manageable.

👍I like all your ideas. They sound good and affordable.
Thanks
