Reviewing practice passages

So I’m using mcatjellys schedule and was hoping to find some insight and opinions on how to effectively review TBR passages or any kind of practice passage.

Whenever I get one wrong I usually just review the the answer thoroughly and write down a note or two discussing the topic. But i feel like this is not effective because when I review those notes they don’t make much sense because there’s not content with the question. Anyone out there have a more effective method?

Excellent question! There's a lot that could be said about reviewing practice passages, but the short answer to your question is that you want to develop action points based on your review, and then execute them before the next FL exam.

The first thing you need to do to develop action points is to isolate the issue in any question you were uncertain of. If it was a pure content issue, then you can make a note to go back and review the relevant content, ideally a little deeper than what the question specifically tested. If it was a strategy issue, what would you have had to do to get the question right, and what steps can you take to improve on similar questions in the future? If it was a timing issue, you can think about where your time went, whether it was spent effectively, and what steps you can take to improve your timing in the future. You may identify other types of issues too, but hopefully you get the idea 🙂.

Basically, it sounds like right now your passage-review is essentially backwards-looking -- your goal is to shift to forward-looking lessons you can take with you to your next practice exam or Test Day itself.

I make ANKI cards to the questions I get incorrect from the TBR books, even if they are based on a passage (i'll include the passage in the anki card, or just input the relative data necessary to answer the question if it is a math-based question).
