How many people did everybody use to review their secondary essays? With so many essays, I feel it's impossible to make every one perfect, but I don't want to be sending in crap either. I've been having two people review my secondary essays before I call them done, but I wanted to know what other people do? More reviewing? Less reviewing? None at all?

Sometimes I just typed with my eyes closed and then submitted right away. As long as you don't read them after submitting I find anxiety is mitigated.

Same as Nick and Aiya, noone read my secondaries either. Didn't realize there are secondaries readers until this year actually

just proofread them yourself. The reason you'll be rejected is not because your secondary essay was subpar lol.

My dad. Also, like someone mentioned above, once you submit don't read it anymore. You will always find ways of improving your essays and you don't want that kind if anxiety.

Wow ok good to know. Never thought I would be the most paranoid pre-med on SDN, but I guess someone has to do it 🙂

Thanks for the input everybody

I have five people look at and edit mine.

It's quite overkill, and I doubt they put much weight into the secondaries, but maybe not!

Hopefully it doesn't hurt my app, because it takes me ~2 weeks to write and get feedback and submit each, especially with >20 of them it's quite the load.

i just had my sister read them over and edit them. u can't have too many ppl reviewing IMO bc EVERYONE has an opinion and sometimes it can be a hindrance to have so many different points of view

Mostly just one person so far, sometimes two. I find it to be very helpful. For the most part, if I wasn't happy with what I wrote, I wouldn't have written it, so I do not edit my own work very effectively. And occasionally, my readers get something completely different out of an essay than I intended. It is good to know when that happens.

Who knows how important the secondary essays are? On the one hand, I think, "These must be important. Why else would they have asked?" On the other hand, I think, "They have far too much **** to read to pay serious attention to any of this." I lean towards the former.

I just read out loud to myself. I don't get anyone else to read it because I'm so impatient that by the time I finish writing it, I would just rather hit submit and be done with it. Though I did mess up big time in one of my secondaries.

To those who might read this, if you do make a mistake (read: big mistake, as in naming of the school), you should think about contacting the school. I searched related posts on the matter and saw the plethora of negative replies. I was scared from reading previous posts stating they put the wrong school and speculated that it resulted in a rejection. I didn't want this to happen to me so I actually contacted the school to see if I could amend my secondary. To my surprise I received a reply telling me that my secondary was unlocked and that I could make the proper changes. I know that if I posted my question on SDN, people would make a mockery of me or call me neurotic. Luckily I chose to go with my gut instinct and it turned out for the best. I'm not saying this will work for everyone 100% of the time, but don't be hesitant to go against the mainstream advice here. As good as it may be, there are always exceptions and you yourself may very well be one.
