Hello SDNers. I'm in need of some opinions. I just got waitlisted at BU, and I'm preparing for the worst just in case i dont get in. I have no interest in doing a masters program and i see only dentistry as the way to go. My current stats are:

cGPA: 3.23
SGPA: 3.20

Canadian DAT
RC: 22
Bio: 21
Chem: 18
AA: 20
TS: 20
PAT: 19
Carving: 26

Should i try and rewrite the DAT to improve my score since my GPA is on the low side? I would write the american DAT instead of the Canadian one so that I wont have to wait until november to do it. Should i risk getting a lower score? do u guys think its worth the effort?

I submitted everything to aadsas by july 31 and everything was sent out by mid to late august last year. I'm definitely going to apply in early june for this application cycle. Do you think i'll have a much greater chance of getting in? btw, im from canada and went to university of toronto for my undergrad.

You may not have an interest in doing a masters program, but if it's the only option, you may not have a choice. However, I think your GPA is high enough in that you can do a post-bacc program and take upper level science courses in order to raise your GPA. Your DAT scores are slightly above average, but I am not sure if every US school accepts the Canadian DAT. You should check with the US schools you want to apply to and see if they accept it. If they do, I would not worry about re-taking the DAT, but rather increase your GPA.

i was also thinking that a 2nd undergrad could also be an option. this way i can still apply after my first year and be upping my GPA at the same time. If i do this then I would have to rewrite my DAT because some schools require a DAT within the last 3 years (mine is november 2007).

does anyone have any information on second degrees in terms of fast tracking? how long does it typically take to complete a second degree? what do u think are the pros and cons of doing this vs a masters (2yr research) program?

Hey I am kinda like you in that I am canadian also, I applied 2 years ago, but I didn't get in anywhere. I thought about doing masters, but I decided to do another undergrad degree because I thought my gpa wasn't too terrible and I felt confident in my abilities to pull it up. I had a 3.35 or something when I applied 2 years ago, now I would probably have a 3.5 or something when I apply this cycle. Not sure yet. If I get in this year, I would end up with another degree if I get in for 2010. I purposely chose another degree that has a lot of overlap. I am still not sure if this is the right decision yet though.. hehe

I also retook the DAT, but my DAT was much lower than urs. I think ur DAT looks good.
