Sorry to post so late in the conversation, but I have a question. I do think every American should have access to healthcare. But I'm not quite sold on the proposed solution by the President Obama administration---but I'm also beginning to think that I might not understand the proposed bill properly.

Under a universal HC system, where exactly does the money used to cover everyone come from? Is it soley from people's income? Everyone pays the fed gov't money based on their income level, and then the gov't uses the money to cover everyone's healthcare---is that right?

The bill is not a universal HC system. The bill that passed is basically an insurance company regulation bill, with loopholes and some crap language that will do nothing to control costs. It's far far better than before, but it is also far far away from what is needed.

You know how older people have medicare? Imagine if everyone had medicare from birth to death - that would be universal healthcare. The costs come from the same place that our defense budget and the rest of government comes from, our taxes.

Where have you been the past year 😕

awesome guy, he makes me wonder how many premeds tell med school admissions how much they want to do exactly that and in the end change their mind.

I applaud Albany Medical College for taking a chance on this guy. He admits he had a unremarkable undergrad gpa, was granted just a courtesy interview because of his association with the school (he taught radiology residents as a radiation safety officer), and somehow managed to get admitted but vindicated himself by being inducted into AOA (medical school honor society), graduating with honors and serving as class president.
