Do any students familiar with Richmond know what the "bad" areas are, to stay away from? I'm starting at VCU and I don't really know the area, so can anyone give me an indicator regarding the different neighborhoods in the area? I am looking across the river in Westover Hills area of Richmond for housing, but also downtown. Any opinions, or could anyone refer any good apartment complexes that a lot of students live in/are close to the MCV bus line? THANKS!! 😍

I'm in graduate school at VCU, I go to the downtown campus, which is where you will be. Shockhoe Slip is pretty safe, and the apartments down there are nice. "The Fan" is where I live, and is pretty safe from monroe park out to the boulevard. Broad steet is kinda dumpy, and so is grace, but between monument and main most of the area is safe. I would check things out before getting a place. You can personal message me if you find a certain place and want to know if it is cool. Andy

I really like the Westover Hills neighborhood, but not Westover Hills Blvd after Forest Hills, where lots of the apartments are.

You might be able to find an inexpensive house rental in Stratford Hills - I just sold my house there and keep seeing signs for rentals. A bus commute from there would probably be a little problematic, though.

I can also help with checking out particular locations. I've lived all over Richmond for the last 10 years or so.
