There's even more reason for the NFL to take pride in Williams. He is taking two classes (math and writing composition) at a South Florida college this fall. The credits will help Williams finish his undergraduate degree at the University of Texas. Williams wants to become an osteopath, a physician who treats patients through holistic methods.

Think he might get drug tested before an interview? Wonder what type of questions they would ask...

Yea, I think he is under the impression that it is the more German/European perception of osteopathic medicine. He has been into that holistic stuff for a while. I think he needs to work out his emotional issues first, but hey...interesting resume. Taking classes while playing in the NFL...pretty rare extracurricular.

Ricky Williams is a space cadet. He spent four years at UT, and some of his offseasons too, and he's barely halfway towards his degree.

I should note that he played professional baseball in the springs of his first three years, so that contributes to him being as far behind as he is, but he's had plenty of free time since then, and is still nowhere close to graduating. If education was important to him, he would have gotten it done by now.

He isn't your average dumb-as-rocks athlete either, and I think that makes it worse. He's a creative guy with a brain in his head. He is very shy, and keeps to himself. I know he suffers from social anxiety disorder, and he has said on numerous occasions that he likes smoking weed for it better than he likes taking his meds.

If he really wanted to, I don't doubt that he has the mental faculties to get it done (assuming he hasn't fried his brain on the reefer by now). But when was the last time he ever dedicated four whole years of his life to anything even remotely stressful?

To be honest, I would love to see him pull it off. It would be a big turnaround in his life, where I don't think he's ever found anything to dedicate himself to that has made him happy. But this is probably just Ricky talking out his ass... again.

Robert Smith once said he wanted to become a doctor after playing football. Everyone applauded him and said he had the intelligence to do it. I suspect he took some chemistry or organic chemistry and high-tailed it towards broadcasting. I'll believe Ricky wants to be a doctor when I actually see it.

Robert Smith is a different story. He got railed by his coaches for taking classes that were too hard, and he actually could have pulled it off if he wanted to.

I worked in strength and conditioning, and majored in kinesiology at Texas. I knew a lot of athletes, and I even know a few football players who went to med school when they graduated. There are other guys who are very successful in other areas of the real world. Richard Walton, who did quite a bit of handing off to the likes of Ricky Williams and Priest Holmes, is now a radiologist.

Ricky Williams has a ways to go. Like I said, he's a fairly bright guy, but he has a history of being extremely irresponsible and impulsive. On the other hand, I was the same way, and I turned it around. I hope he is able to pull it off, but I doubt he even tries.

Ricky needs to work on his emotional issues first. Most of the football players I've known act dumber than they are anyway (there are idiots too but not as common as it seems). It'd take a complete shift in attitude for Ricky. I think it'd be cool, but the guy needs some counseling and to lay off the green for a bit.

Ricky Williams smokes weed...thats all he has done bad in his life. Yet he had braids and apparently looked like a thug or something to some ppl so he got a rep as a bad dude.

I was a huge football fan my whole life and i beleived the hype. I thought Williams was a bad guy. Then i started looking into things a bit deeper and he is really just a really nice guy. Watch this video of his heisman speech:

He's really shy and humble. He went out of his way to congratulate the other nominees. He was real nervous giving the speech, like one of those real shy nice guys in high school. And in relation to the DO thing, isnt it true that most of those really nice shy guys in high school were good in their academics?

Yeah... and then some of them go on homocidial rampages

He is freakishly shy. It goes beyond just being soft spoken. He used to only interview with his helmet on when he played for the saints. He has pretty severe social anxiety from what I've heard/seen.

I'm not lumping him in with crazy bastards like Ray Lewis. He still has emotional issues that need to get ironed out. You don't have to be an ***** to have issues.
