We should start a thread for ride sharing. Most places are nearby the airport, but places like Minneapolis is a 1 hour 20 minute drive from Mayo. A rental is cheap at $20/day but gas adds up. At the risk of anonymity, it may help to split gas/costs. You can always share a cab on way back from interview, but ultimately costs add up. I will try to go with people from my school to cut costs, but sometimes that's not an option. back to work.

fly directly into Rochester for Mayo, they have a shuttle that will deliver you to your hotel (one of the hotels pays for your shuttle fair). you may be able to save money by flying and renting through minneapolis as mentioned though.

For those of you looking to save some cost travelling from Minneapolis/St. Paul to Rochester check out www.gorochesterdirect.com, it's a shuttle service from the cities. Round trip is $55. They have a discount for Mayo employees, but I'm not sure about interviewees. May want to ask.

Gotobus.com has some cheap bus fares but limits access to the discount lines. Megabus.com has $1 fares if you're the first to get it, so plan ahead. You often have to connect in New York City at Penn Station. There are many cheap fares, so if you can land in New york and take a bus, its good to get you to Philly, Boston, Baltimore, D.C. etc. Equivalent amount of time to a flight or car trip, but much cheaper.
