My science gpa is >3.0 and I'm really worried about it as my overall GPA isn't exactly spectacular. I'm taking the DAT in 2 weeks and have been scoring 24+ on the practice exams...just wondering what do you think the chances of getting in with a low science gpa is? 🙁

I'm kind of concerned that your title says "pre-medical" and you are posting this but I'm sure you have your reasons. If medical schools want a 3.6, dental schools want a 3.5. I'm not sure why competition has soared in the past 2-3 years but it is just slightly less competitive than medicine now and some DO schools are less competitive. At any rate, something to think about if you want med over dent... DO program (that isn't on the west coast... they are really good out there...some east coast and midwest schools are too).

To your question, if you have a positive trend, you may have a better shot if you do VERY well on the DATs. Science GPA is REALLY important. From my experiences alone, scoring 24 on the DAT would be great, but if the practice tests you are taking are from the Barron's review book, expect a much lower score on the real thing. If you are scoring 24 on Kaplan, expect to go down maybe 2-3. If you are scoring 24 on Topscore, you are probably in good shape for the DAT. Regardless, a very low science GPA is VERY difficult to overcome unless you maybe do a post bacc or masters program and do very well (aim for 3.5 minimum). Good luck and don't be discouraged.

disregard the Pre-Medical...I don't even know why that is still up there.

Anyway, yeah I'm hoping to get a 24+ but I'm not sure whether that will be enough to offset such a low science GPA?

I'm going to go sit in the corner now and face the wall +pity+

Well, I think you will have a chance if you applied to the right schools. There are schools that favor high DAT over GPA so I think you chance maybe considerably better there.

Personally, I think a 24 is a very formidable score...if I were an adcom, seeing that score would make me think twice about throwing away your app. even if you happen to have a bad GPA.

The high DAT score might suggest to the committee that you are really smart🙂 but the low science GPA might also suggest that you are really lazy!:scared:

true, but if there is a chance. I guess I should give it all I've got and stop feeling sorry for myself...😳

thanks guys.

How many schools are you applying to, if I may ask?

I'm applying to about 14 schools...

If I don't get in this cycle then I'll just get a Masters in Biology and boost my GPA...I guess it's not the end of the world...😳
