Seriously.
I still come in early , do my checks, talk with the CRNAs I'm going to be working with, etc. EARLY.
We'll roll back, and we'll get everything set-up, go to sleep, get the patient positioned and whatnot. There's a cadre of surgeons who, about that time, breeze into the OR and start barking out orders. Literally, just showed-up to the hospital at 7:35 AM. I've already been there AT LEAST an hour.
I admire the ones who pre-round and/or talk to their patients in the holding area.
One of the CRNAs was telling about this guy a couple of years ago who one of my colleagues actually made the mistake of calling at 6:45 AM one morning to discuss an issue. I kid you not, after what was explained on the phone to them, this was the purported response...
"So, remind me again why the f*** you are calling me at home? I don't give a g**d**** about their potassium. How about you get your **** started and get them back to the OR and let me finish my shower?"
I know who this person is. And, although I haven't had any run-ins with him, I've heard about the temperament... and I've (honestly) worked not to antagonize him. I've also heard that he's on shaky ground with admin, but so long as he's bringing cash to the hospital I imagine that this will continue to be tolerated.
