This thread is inspired from the histopath one below...

Seeing these images (as a med1) is somewhat intimidating for someone seriously thinking about Path. Is Path a field that only Right brain image oriented people can survive in? For me, I tend to think things out more in a left brained table format (however, I'm certainly still a visual learner).

I guess all I'm asking is, is learning to memorize images something that you acquired over time, or have most of you (residents, attendings) always had a lean towards a 'photographic'ish memory.

Right brain and no brain. Unfortunately both are common in the field.

I have a very analytical, left brain dominated, sort of intellect. I have a bit of a creative side but as an artist and a purveyor of the abstract I suck. Images are important, yes, but as you go along and see more of them it begins to have a different effect than just trying to decipher an image.

The images are only half the story - the means to an end. Pathology is a whole-brain field.

...Maybe once I get some dinner in me I'll be able to come up with an answer that sucks less. 😉

If you have never been able to see the hidden picture in a Stereogram (Stereograms are 3D images hidden within another picture very popular about 10 years ago) Then dont bother with path.

Look, a sailboat!

I hate those stereogram things. I have never stared at one long enough or paid attention to them enough to even know whether I would see the picture. I tend to deal in reality.

I curse thee for mentioning stereograms. I tried my hand at half a dozen only to give up and go cry in the corner.

For those who have no clue what we are gabbing about 😉

Hey Fedor
I do some work with stereo images kinds of stuff, so it isnt too bad.....

Honestly though, the trick is stare at the screen and daydream as if there is no tommorow, The kind of daydreaming where your eyes glaze over...... 🙂 🙂

I was kidding about the gender btw. I see something hanging between the legs of the pterosaur at the bottom, hence the wicked idea.... 😀 😀

They're reeeeeally reeeeeeally easy 😉 The key is to cross your eyes until two similar parts of the image (e.g. the rock peaks) overlap.

At about 6pm today, I felt like that child.

And tomorrow is going to be another whipping.
