I wear a titanium ring on my right hand, and a tungsten carbide wedding band. I've heard from a couple people that this can be dangerous because if you ever suffer a crushing hand injury that deforms the ring, the ED may have to cut off your finger since they won't have the tools to cut the metal of the ring. Can anyone confirm this, or anybody have any interesting ring stories?

Both titanium and tungsten carbide are (relatively) non-malleable. Thus, they are likely to fracture as opposed to deform. Worry about laceration from fragmentation, sure, but deformation leading to amputation? Unlikely...

i've heard this too and always figured it to be crap b/c the ortho guys use titanium implants and as such i've assumed they have to be able to cut them... and if they can, why can't the ED docs?

but if this is incorrect, please let me know. i'm getting married in a few months and was planning on a titanium ring. 😉

Crushing the ring is how tungsten ones are supposed to be removed.

or, you can try the "string technique"

if you see this ring, beware-- it can only be melted with magma. instead you should steal it and rule the world.

either one of your janitorial staff is loose, your psych ward is overflowing, or you have fallen asleep and are having "that weird lord of the rings" dream again.
