If a pharmacist was working alone and filled and rang up their own medications at the register would this be acceptable or grounds for termination?

Probably against policy, and could be used against you if they don't like you.

I wouldn't do it. Just because. I would just take the Rx up to the front and have the cashier ring me out and the end of my shift.

Never a problem until the register bounces.

It's against policy at most pharmacies. Just call over a manager or make sure to buy the medication before the last tech leaves.

I work for CVS and our policy is another associate as to ring up any of your purchases. But I have often rang my self out because people are usually busy doing something i just let my PIC know i am doing it and what i am getting and just have them sign the receipt for me. I have had a pharmacist fill and ring their own scripts out before as well they would just have me sign it.

Yes, in most places that would be grounds for firing (doesn't mean they would, depending on the circumstances, but most places do list that as as grounds for firing.)

The policy at our store is that you get fired for ringing yourself up for anything. Even gum or water.

Anywhere I've worked no one, pharmacist, techs, clerks, even the people that stock the shelves in the store, was allowed to ring up their own stuff. If you wanted to buy a drink during your shift someone else had to ring it up. I don't think this is unreasonable either.

Personally, whenever I've had any med filled while I was working I never handled it. I asked the pharmacist or another tech to refill, count, and ring me up when it's done. I didn't want any involvement in filling my own medications.

Tricky....but as a corporate rule, you never ring yourself up. I'd just go to a 24hr pharmacy next door if I was worried or not sure about company policies and don't want to get in trouble. I don't know, I guess I have a thing for going to the competitors :meanie:
