Anyone using Risperdal Consta in their practice? For reasons I don't quite understand, in NY we can't use it under Medicare. Something about the medical necessity clause (I think). Perhaps someone can explain this more clearly.

It seems to have interesting pharmacokinetics that require 3 week supplementation with an oral neuroleptic after the first IM dose. Has anyone seen the effects of this clinically?

Yup, only found it to be more like 6 weeks than 3. It's because there are 'granules' which have to dissolve to reach a steady state- had one girl who got very unwell when reduced her oral too quickly.
