Hi,

I got offers from Rite aid and Walgreens for grad-intern position from two different states.

1. Rite aid in preferred location
2. Walgreens in not preferred location

The place that I got an offer for Rite aid is one of my priority locations, but because of merging with Walgreens, I am hesitating to go there.

which one would you guys choose?? and
Is it okay and safe (in terms of keeping the job position) to work at Rite aid despite of merging with Walgreens?

Depends if there's a Rite Aid next to a Walgreens in either location. If not, you're safe, but I have noticed in the past few years that many new Walgreens locations were purposely built right next to Rite Aids.

There are 10 Rite aids and 5 walgreens.
How does it look??

I mean like within a few block radius. If they are far enough away, it should be OK. Otherwise, maybe better to stick to Walgreens.

I agree here. How far is the nearest Walgreens? Is there a major highway between them? Also what other pharmacies are nearby, Walgreens won't close the store if a high percentage would go elsewhere.

Finally what's the scipt count? I would say anything near 200 per day would not be closed. If it's only doing 100, there's a good chance it won't make it. I would go into the store and check it out.

The merger between Walgreens and Rite Aid will likely lead to many stores closed. You need to factor in proximity and script volume. If you don't have access to that information then I would start forming relationships or at least talking to the pharmacy managers at the stores involved. The process of merging and closing stores will likely be a long one. It may be 5 years, no one really knows. I would go with your gut instinct. You are smart and you should think this out for yourself. You should not follow any advice on the forum except trusting yourself to do the right thing.

There is not major highway between stores and about 2-3 miles away from each Walgreens and Rite aid.

2 miles is a decent distance, so it will come down to script count. I cant see all three staying open though, one gets closed probably.

The company I worked for prior to Walgreens got bought out by Walgreens so heres my insight:
1) they gave everyone a reasonable chance to transition to Walgreens, we had to apply but basically everyone was hired
2) you may not get to pick your location after the buy-out. Your location may close, it may stay open then close a year later, or it may stay open indefinitely; just something to consider
3) and something I think is definitely important to consider-training and learning a system. Learning a system, then changing to a completely different system is frustrating. I loved where I worked and would would go through the process all over again. But if your not already working there--I'd say just go with Walgreens. No sense in going in to Rite-Aid doing the hours of training, learning everything, and then having to do it all over again.

still seeing job postings from Rite Aid. Is the merger not going through?

I saw several job postings for kmart pharmacy before they closed down most of them around here.
