Hey everyone so I just got offered an interview at the Rocky Mountain University of Health Professionals. Whoohoo! Ha so I know the program isn't actually accredited and instead it's a "candidate for accreditation status"...but what I found out is that if the program does not become accredited, the RMUoHP has signed teach-out agreements with 8 DPT programs across the nation. These included: Texas State University, the University of Michigan - Flint, University of Kentucky, Drexel, Tennessee State, UNLV, Bellarmine, and Hardin-Simmons University. After talking to a few of the head coordinators from the program, they were almost certain that they would gain accreditation status...although I thought it was pretty cool that they had a "safety net" with these other universities just in case they didn't.

Now that I know that I'll be able to graduate from an accredited university (hopefully at RMUoHP because it would be a hassle trying to change universities), I was wondering if anyone else was considering about going there or if there are any current students at RMUoHP that can give me some more information about how it is. Coming from a big Midwestern city and a big university, I figured I wanted to go somewhere that was quiet/small where I'd be able to actually study and not be distracted...but I also don't want to lose my mind because of how small it is 🙂 haha are there any other students out there that share my thoughts?

Thanks for the help!

I have an interview there as well on the 18th. I've visited the campus a few times and have talked with Dr. Mcwhorter one on one as well. He has eased my mind on the accreditation thing. I have no doubt they will be accredited.

Dr. Mcwhorter is impressive and like he told me "this is not his first rodeo". The faculty is strong (even if a lot of them are just guest faculty). The facility is nice and new, but they do not have a cadaver lab. Anatomy is mostly done online, but they are trying to get some sort of cadaver agreement with UVU and BYU (both very large universities within 10 mins of RMUoHP) to use their labs.

If you are coming from the midwest, Provo will be a little bit of a culture shock. I live in the area and went to BYU so I know what Provo is all about. RMUoHP is not your traditional university, so you won't have a college experience there. The campus is basically a couple of suburban style office buildings with no character at all. If you don't care about a true college experience (hey, it's grad school, so is that really that important?), than RMUoHP should be fine.

If you have any other questions about the school or area, let me know!

I'm a current DPT student and RMUoHP, and quickly, it's professions, not professionals. Let me know if you have any questions. The university will find out this week about accreditation. A quick FYI, if the university doesn't achieve accreditation, then the DPT program cannot, regardless. But everyone is very confident that we will get accreditation. Good luck at your interview. I don't have enough good things to say about RMUoHP

Wait, what?? They will find out about accreditation this week?? I thought accreditation could not occur until the first class graduates in 2012. Is that not correct?

Ha thanks for clarifying the "professions" part - it was definitely a typo 🙂 but I agree with the last post...I got in contact with the administrative assistant of the DPT program and she told me that the school can only achieve the full accreditation status right before the first DPT class would graduate (early December 2012) so if I enrolled in the May 2011 class, this would be during my 5th semester. Is this incorrect?

I will also be sending you a message soon if that's alright with you! I definitely have more questions about the program and it would be great to get more information from a student that is currently in the program. Thanks!

Just had my interview today. It went well, I think. It seems like they have everything under control and that I would get a good education there. Fingers crossed that I can get accepted, cause this is my last real shot.

Well, haven't heard back yet about acceptance, but good news, the university has received their regional accreditation from Northwest accreditation (same organization that accredits all the big boys in WA, OR, MT, ID, NV and UT). This is great to hear. Hopefully we hear soon about acceptance into the program!

hey i got my acceptance email today too! but now i don't know if i can go because i can't get federal money through fasfa to pay for it. i know they said their local bank can give out loans. how are any current students paying right now?? any thoughts??

They are getting loans through Mountain America Credit Union. It's a variable rate loan. I believe that they should be able to start doing FAFSA loans now that the university is accredited. Not 100% sure though. Talk to the admissions people. I know I am tomorrow..

Oh and congrats!

anyone else get accepted to rmuohp recently?

Just an update, in talking with the admissions people, federal loans are in the process of getting done. Could take a few months, so for the first semester, MACU (bank) loan is really the only option. After that, federal loans should take care of the rest....
