Does any one know of any schools that offer like an already graduated RN, BSN to MD program? your response will be appreciated.

Any medical school in this country will take your BSN as an undergraduate pre-med major. You apply for admission AMCAS (or ACOMAS for DO schools) like anyone else after taking the MCAT (will be offered 22 times in 2007).

Are there any medical schools in this country that will give you advanced credit for your nursing degree? No.

As a former RN, BSN now MD, I can assure you that your education as a nurse will come in handy - but in intangible ways, NOT academic ways that would allow you to pursue advanced standing. Because of the emphasis on communication with patients, you'll probably be more adept at interviewing and putting patients at their ease. But your "book learning" in nursing school did not prepare you for med school, trust me on that. 😛

As an RN currently in med school, I totally agree with above.

There are schools in the Carib offering advance standing so that you supposedly spend only 3 years in meds school instead of 4. Don't waste your time. It's bogus. Your BSN, pre-reqs and MCAT is what you need to get started.

Im glad you said that because Ive been wondering this for some time now...Im planning to obtain my RN,and also get my BSN. I am unfamiliar with the track/classes considering I havent started yet. But if I do have a BSN, that will get me into Med School? Or do I have to go back and take a whole bunch of Pre-Reqs to get in?

Im a little confused on this part...Please help! & I appreciate all the responses that everyone provides to lost students like me...😀

The BSN will satisy only one of the basic requirements for med school. They are as follows: 1. Bachelor's degree in anything (you can apply while comleting your last year) 2. Science pre-req's 1 yr of each: gen chem, o-chem, physics, biology. some schools require other courses like calculus or biochem etc. 3. Taking the MCAT.
You really need to just pick up a book on the process and read through it. And visit and advisor at your school to find out what course they have that will satisfy the premed prereq's.

Hi there,

I see u were an RN to MD school. I am thinking of that route. I have taken most of the prereq as undergrad...only organo chem and physics left. How long did it take u to prepare for MCAT? How did the schools see ur nursing experience? I am currently doing acute care np. although doing well, very dissatisfied. I want to have an autonomy and really want to go to med school. Any advice???
