any rn's who interviewed? did you face any biases? or advantages? my premed advisor told me that being a nurse would be of no benefit in md school. and from what i have been reading; it seems as if it may actually be a handicapp. mandy

my take after working as an RN for 5 yrs and a tech for 5 is, its a bit of a wash as far as admitence. you have some thing to talk about and can ask some good question in an interview. but the reallity is that the schools need to keep their numbers up (ie avg GPA and MCAT, racial deversity ect) so your on the same level as the rest of the aplicants.

on the up side the advange builds in time 1st and 2nd year there is a mild advantage in haveing the vocab of medicine in place and a big help in that you know the meds that are commonly perscribed, this is off set in that the exam questions senarios are idealistic and are often 180 deg from real life

3rd year is when the advantige really shows as the students who have some back ground hit the gound running, while the others are dissoriented for some time trying to figure the diffrence between a tegederm and a telfa

one last thing a plug for the DO schools. althow the DO world has its issues, we have a lot of RNs PAs PTs in the class and i am happy here.
