Hey everyone,

Are there any RN's who are planning on going into pharamacy? I'd like some advice on the matter because nursing classes basically screwed my GPA (as you nurses know, it's hard to get an A in the nursing program). Thanks for your time.

And yes, I've been to the pharmacy forum already. I just thought I'd try my luck here.

Thanks...

well, i have a friend who is in his second year of pharmacy school, and his gpa was never superb. he had about a 3.0 from community college when he applied, and was accepted right away. and now he has even less than a 3.0, and yet in 2.5 years he will be a pharmacist. But, as a current nursing student, I know that nursing classes can be crappy, so I understand your problem. Do you need to take some pharm pre-reqs still? Because if you take those and get good grades, you could bring your gpa up, right? well, good luck 🙂

I bailed on nursing school after 2.5 years to save my GPA. I ended up going to medical school, but at the time I left, I did so because I knew that I was going to pursue some "non-nursing" grad school. It is difficult to recover a bad GPA. I would look at one of the one-year post-bacc programs for medical school. This would give you a year's worth of difficult basic science coursework by which to demonstrate your academic skills. I know it might be weird to use one as a springboard to Pharm school (as opposed to medical school), but the machinations of it would be largely the same...

I am currently a nurse and in dental school. Not great grades from nursing 3.09 but I rocked the entrance exams and was determined to get here. I think that the nursing so far has been great experience and very helpful for dental school so far. I am sure that your experience will help you as well.

I think that pharmacy can be a great field, or it can also be a very boring profession. My sister-in-law is a pharmacist and works for a company that puts together formularies for insurance programs. She has a cake job, makes great money and constantly talks about how most national polls list pharmacists higher in public trust than nursing. I don't think I believe her but she seems pretty happy as a pharm d.

Good luck with your decisions.
