Has onyone used this as a path source for step I? I know its A LOT of questions, but it seems pretty good, especially the introductory chapters (1-8).

Any thoughts or experience?

I have used it - its a great book. THe questions are hard, but the explanations are worth reading.

all depends on the amount of time you have...good questions...they were much harder than the shelf....probably on par with the real thing

really, somehow, i don't think the questions are that great (at least as much as everyone makes it sounds). yea, they're clinically oriented, and they're based on the gold std textbook of path--but, i feel as if there aren't too many areas in those questions where you have to make 2-3 connections to come up with an answer, as you may have to for the boards. And, I also feel they focus a lot on the histopath. But, what do i know--haven't taken the beast yet.

Are you serious? I'd say 2/3 of the questions are triple to quadruple-jump questions! Go do the chapter on the eye and tell me that they are easy.

probably the single best prep questions/content book for step 1 in my opinion. Those questions were super duper hard, but you learn a TON while doing them. I used that and BRS path and rocked step 1.
of course i used other review books as well, but for path you'll be set.

I like this book alot, done it once during chirstmas vacation, and then again following along with class. All path question done afterwards seem easy in comparsion with this book (even qbank).

i agree...this book makes q-bank easy (scoring about 85%-100% now- after not getting a single chapter question right in robbins)
i'm using the 6th edition-any different then 7th in your opinions?

It really doesn't matter how hard these questions are (some people will find them tough and some will find them easy - depends on how much you know). The book is a definite learning experience due to the explanations - each answer choice is thoroughly explained and really TEACHES the nuisances, thus read ALL explanations.

I agree with the above poster. Some of the questions are a tad obscure but it is a great teaching tool. The explanations are wonderful and the pictures are great. Our pathology class uses the Robbins books and I think I've been through the question book maybe 2-3 times over this last year. I think that if all of my classes had a question book like this one I would be honoring all of my classes.

Robbins is a great source of questions. They are written in such a way that if you get them wrong, you will learn an important point or nuance when you read the explanation. They are hard questions because they put your knowledge of concepts to the test, not because they test meaningless minutia.

In short, doing all of the questions, getting hammered by them, and reading the excellent explanations as to why you were wrong is well worth your time.

the difference of opinion on these forums is amazing. i think the question book is good for path class shelf, but not for the step 1. id rather do qbank. the robbins q's are less integrative path questions, while the step 1 q's are more integrative. even though u do learn path doing those q's, id rather spend my time more wisely and do q's that are more similar to the actual exam...IMHO

how different is the latest edition of this book compared to the previous edition? are most of the questions new or is there a lot of overlap with the previous edition?

I could not tell a difference. It seemed the same.

I definitely agree that its a great source.... It was my primary path reference for Step 1 and I definitely did not regret using it as my sole resource (along with qbank for everything). There's also a website I used during 2nd year that has questions similar to Robbins you might want to check out. It's called WebPath

i just looked at web-path for the first time. is it just an emphysis on pictures?
i wouldn't think one should spend a lot of time duing that since 90% of the question with path pictures do not require you to really look at the picture. just my .02.

Robbins review of path is definitely worth it for Step 1. Path/pathophys was one of my strongest areas on Step 1 because of that book. Highly recommended.

one month left of studying... would it be worth purchasing this book? is it more "hi yield " than qbank for path?
