When I wrote my previous message, I was a little annoyed at the announcement. In effect, next year UR will have a new Dean of the Medical School and a new Senior Dean for Medical Education. These are the two top positions at the school. I think this has both positive and negitive potential. First, they have been developing the new curriculum for the past eight years. It was a team effort and most of the key people involved are still at Rochester. The "Double-Helix" is really a part of the institution and now most of the work involves tweaking it. This is done by the course directors, all who are still at UR. The Curriculum is great, its a model that is being copied across the nation, so I guess it is a complement that people want to steal our deans.
My real worry is that losing two of the greatest spokepeople for the new curriculum, might have some impact on the institution. They were passionate about UR and what were doing. For them to leave will mean that well lose some of our biggest promoters (perception does mean something). I guess I'm also worried about having two inexperienced people heading the school. I'm probably just overreacting a bit.
